The 25 artworks in this Rhoda Goldman Plaza show were created over the past two years in Caroline Blum’s Upper West Side home studio. Using ink, watercolor, colored pencil, acrylic, and collage on graph paper, her work features floral and imaginative subjects that have an intricate fineness where one can see the influence of Ruth Asawa, the SF icon.

Caroline, as a child, often visited Asawa’s studio with family. When asked by Caroline’s father, how to encourage a young artist? Ruth answered him “just provide plenty of pencils, paper and crayons”. Beyond form, Caroline also to finds inspiration with how Asawa wove a life of commitment to art, family, and community.

Bio: Caroline Blum, a San Mateo native, earned her BA in Fine Art from UC Santa Cruz before honing her skills in drawing and painting at the New York Studio School. Her diverse body of work—including drawings, paintings, and sculptures—has been showcased in galleries across New York City, Rochester, Chicago, and Los Angeles.
